From 1953 to 1981 Mildred Norman Ryder, calling herself only "Peace Pilgrim" walked more than 25,000 miles on a personal pilgrimage for peace. She was born in 1908 on a farm in Egg Harbor City, NJ. In the summer of 1952 Mildred hiked the entire length of the 2050 mile-long Appalachian Trail and was the first woman to accomplish this. Her life was devoted to promoting peace throughout the world.
