NIAGARA FALLS —
Alfred Anthony Gaeta, 95, of Niagara Falls, NY, died on Monday, July 8, 2013 at home surrounded by his family. He was born on April 14, 1918 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of Carl and Clementine (Guetta) Gaeta. He married his loving wife, Clara Fruscione Gaeta on November 24, 1945, in St. Joseph's Church. She predeceased him on April 23, 2005.
Alfred grew up on 11th Street and attended 13th St. School, South Junior High School and Trott Vocational High School. He was in the US Army for five years and received the Silver Star for gallantry in action and the Purple Heart while serving in France during WWII as a Staff Seargent. He worked for several years at the International Paper Mill and then at E.I. DuPont in Niagara Falls where he retired after 29 years of service in 1978. Al was a skilled carpenter, plumber, millwright and mechanic. He was an avid reader, history buff and wood worker. He made toys and stepstools for his many grandchildren. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his family at his land on Lake Ontario. He and his family have enjoyed spending Sundays there for over 50 years.
Al and his wife, Clara, were active members of the YMCA for decades and enjoyed the many activities and friendships that it brought to their lives. They were dedicated members of Sacred Heart Church for over 50 years and active in the CFM and other church related groups. He was a quiet leader of the Holy Name Society. He and Clara enjoyed trips with Senior Citizen groups and even traveled to Italy twice.
Alfred is survived by his children, Anthony (Marie) Gaeta of Lockport, NY, Annabella (Richard) Goodman of Sanborn, NY, Paulette Gaeta, Mary Ann (Philip) Mohr, Christine (Lawrence) Edwards, and Alfred (Ellen) Gaeta, all of Niagara Falls, NY; fourteen grandchildren, Lisa Paszt, Christine (Joe) Dougherty, Jennifer Share, Rebecca (Steve) Spagnolo, Kathryn Mohr, Sarah (Brian) Lombardo, Ryan Edwards, Philip Mohr, Andrew Gaeta, Patricia Gaeta, Elizabeth (Nate) Barnum, Michael  Edwards, Daniel Gaeta and Katherine Edwards; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Mia, Grace, Haley, Michael, Levi, Landon, Emma and Emmitt. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Sr. Celestine Fruscione OSF; and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Antoinette (Jack) Shollock and Mary (Edward) Pasch; and several brothers and sisters-in-law. During his recent illness he was lovingly cared for by his family especially his daughter, Paulette; and granddaughter, Katherine.
Friends may call on Thursday from 4-8 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will begin on Friday, July 12th at 9:00 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Raphael Parish, 3840 Macklem Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Ivan Skenderovic officiating. Entombment with military honors will be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
