Myron, 9 year old son of Mr and Mrs Harold Atwater, living just east of Elmore, drowned in Sugar Creek near his home late Saturday afternoon when he fell off a bridge while fishing with a companion, Lyle Lemke of Elmore.
Several members of the fire department and others rushed to the creek but it was at least an hour and a half before the body was recovered. Maxwell Reynolds and Howard James, who were using a grappling hook about 200 feet downstream from the bridge, recovered the body.
The body was taken to Sabroske and Myers, undertakers and later to the Atwater home.
Surviving besides the parents are three sisters, Ruth, Marjorie and Beverly, all at home.
Funeral services were held at St John's Evangelical Church Tuesday afternoon, Rev W F Brauchitsch officiating. Burial was made in Oak Harbor.
Myron was a fourth grade pupil and schoolmates served as pallbearers.
