Robert Gaylord Chevalier was the eldest child of Alfred Albert Chevalier and Helen May Gaster.

Robert graduated from Ross High School in 1938. He served in the United States Army from March 1941 until October 1945. He was employed by the Ford Motor Company, Sandusky, Ohio as a press room foreman. He also owned and operated the Lake Point Motel in Marblehead, Ohio.

Robert was a member of all bodies of the Masonic Lodge and was a past master of Brainard Lodge No. 338 in Fremont. He was a member of Trinity E.U.B. Church in Fremont. Robert was a pilot and enjoyed outdoor activities, especially boating, fishing, hunting and playing golf.

On October 18, 1946 in Fremont, Robert married Violet Viola Schultz. Robert and Viola had two children.
