Services for Charles Haron Sr., 72, a pioneer Fresno foreign car dealer who became known as "Haron the Baron," will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Paul Armenian Church. Burial will be in Belmont Memorial Park. Mr. Haron died Saturday. He was born in Reedley and had lived in Fresno for more than 50 years. During the Depression, Mr. Haron was a master mechanic and he later opened his own business in Reedley, Chuck's Auto Service and Maintenance.

During World War II, he served as the head of airplane maintenance at Hammer Field.

After the war, he opened Haron's Auto Service at Ventura and L streets, a three-bay shop where he did car repair, tune-ups and engine maintenance.

Mr. Haron got into the car-selling business almost by accident.

While operating his repair shop, he started taking in cars to sell and he eventually became a full-fledged used car dealer.

He soon switched to selling foreign cars, dealing with up to 14 franchises at one time.

Mr. Haron's business primarily dealt with English and European cars. Since 1981, his company has sold Jaguars exclusively. His son, James, will continue to operate the business.

Mr. Haron was past president of the Fresno Used Car Dealers Association, the Fresno New Car Dealers Association, the founder and past president of the Fresno Sports Car Club and a member of the Knights of Templar, the Elks Lodge and Scottish Rite Bodies. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a noble in the Shriners.

He also was a member of the Triple X Fraternity and a founder of the group's Selma chapter, serving as the grand master.

He was a member of the St. Paul Armenian Church.

Surviving are two sons, Rodney and James, both of Fresno; a sister, Rose Tootelian of Saratoga; and four grandchildren.

The family asks that remembrances be made to the American Heart Association.

Yost and Webb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
