Viola Boggs, 81, of, Girard died at 10:15 P.M., Saturday, July 13, 2013 at the Mercy Hospital in Joplin.
She was born November 4, 1931 at rural Farlington, a daughter of James and Helen (Ausemus) Russell. She was raised at Farlington and lived most of her life there.
Viola was united in marriage to Lewis Melvin Boggs on July 23, 1949 at Jasper, AR. She was a homemaker and farmed with her husband. Lewis Melvin "Corky" Boggs preceded her in death on June 28, 2003. She moved to Girard soon after her husband's death.
She was a member of the Farlington United Methodist Church. She enjoyed bowling, sewing and gardening. She also loved making quilts and has made one for every one of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and volunteered at her church's clothes closet.
Survivors include her sons – Ron (Reta) Boggs, of Ozawkie, KS; Dan Boggs, of Girard, KS; her daughters – Ramona (Richard) Murphy, of Girard, KS; Anna (Dave) Groner, of rural Arcadia; seven grandchildren – Ryan (Jen) Boggs, Kristin (Dave) Miller, Rachel (Mike) Clayborne, Angela (J.J.) Karlinger, Scott Murphy, Lisa (Judd) Schossow, and Lori (Tyler) Oestreicher; nine great-grandchildren – Maddy, Wyatt, Morgan, Joel, Colin, Alexis, Aaden, Cash and Jaxten; her mother – Helen Dumm, of Girard, KS; sisters – Wilma Trout, of Liberal, MO; and Joan DeGarmo, of Girard, KS.
