Matthew Van Curen, one of the old residents of Chico was found dead in his bed yesterday morning by his sister, Mrs. L. Sherman at 129 Fourth street. Dr. A.J. Landis was called in and determined that deceased had died during the night. An inquest was held at the Edgar Parlors last evening and it was determined that death resulted from paralysis of the heart, due to dropsical conditions.
The deceased was a native of Pennsylvania, aged 69 years. In 1878 he came west to California and located in Chico where he had resided continuously. He was unmarried and went through life a cripple. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. L. Sherman, in Chico, and a brother in Pennsylvania.
