Alvena was a woman who had a strong faith in God, a proud love of country, but perhaps most importantly of all was the love of her family, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Home was also very important to Alvena and she took great pride in tending to her house and caring for her pets. She loved flowers and gardening, watching nature, traveling, and singing and playing games. Always one to be on the move, Alvena and her husband hiked the entire Pennsylvania branch of the Appalachian Trail.
Alvena was preceded in death by her one and only love, her husband of 65 years, Martin J. Estep. Surviving are her daughters, Linda C. Straub and fiancé Terry Foster of Mechanicsburg and Janet K. Ulmer and husband James of Clifton Heights, PA; five grandchildren, R. Jeffrey Straub (Jennifer), Amy C. Bailey (Brandon), Rachel Ulmer, Kyle M. Straub (Rebecca) and James M. Ulmer; as well as seven great-grandchildren, Katie, Ryan and Andy Straub, Cayden, Brody and Lilly Bailey and Colin Straub; and her sister, Pansy Redman of Advance, MO.
