Old Resident Passes Away-
Cyrus Frank Garland, aged 80 years, a resident of Hartford for many years, former restaurant owner here and better known as a sewing machine expert, died last Thursday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Guy Gifford, in the north part of town, after an illness of several weeks. Mr. Garland was born in Portland, Maine, on October 23, 1844, making him 80 years, 8 months and 16 days of age at the time of his death on July 9, 1925. He came to Michigan in 1865, and had been a resident of Hartford and vicinity for the greater part of the time. On December 25, 1878, he was united in marriage to Miss Emily D. Hurlbut of Hartford, and to this union were born four children, all of whom survive the father. They are Seth E. Garland of Tioga, North Dakota, Mrs. Virginia F. Gifford, Victor Garland, and Mrs. Ruth Branch. Besides the wife and children he is survived by five grandchildren. Funeral services for him were held at the Guy Gifford home Saturday afternoon. Rev. John H. Balfour of the Federated church and Rev. J. C. Branch of White Cloud officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill.
