Roy H. Oakley, age 68, of Florence, Ala., passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at ECM Hospital after an extended illness. He was a native of Lauderdale County, Ala., a retired salesman from Vulco Rubber and of the Methodist faith. Funeral services will be held at Pisgah United Methodist Church on Thursday, July 18, 2013, at 2 p.m. Phillip Springer will be officiating. Burial will follow in Pisgah Cemetery. Mr. Oakley will lie-in-state at the church from 1-2 p.m. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Loretto Memorial Chapel.
Survivors include wife, Beverly Daniel Oakley, Florence, Ala.; son, Mark Oakley and wife, Cindy, Florence, Ala.; two daughters, Mellisa Conley and husband, Johnny, Florence, Ala., and Charlotte Perkins and husband, Roger, Florence, Ala.; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jimmy Oakley and wife, Barbara, Florence, Ala., Trigger Oakley and wife, Reba, Florence, Ala., and Gene Oakley and wife, Donna, Florence, Ala.; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents, James D. and Ethel West Oakley; brothers, Thomas Oakley, Jake and Jack Oakley; sister, Ida May.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Balentine, Blaine Hester, Cory Conley, Chandler Patterson, Jeremy Harris and Zac Joiner.
