Lloyd David Baker, 84, of Mattapoisett died Thursday April 3, 2003 at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford after a brief illness. He was the husband of Carolyn L. (Larson) Baker and the late Ruth Ellen (Angell) Baker, and son of the late Charles R. and Catherine A. (Valley) Baker.
Mr. Baker was born in New Bedford and had lived in Fairhaven for 55 years before moving to Mattapoisett. He was a graduate of Fairhaven High School.

He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in New Bedford.

Mr. Baker was formerly employed with New England Telephone Company for 35 years until retiring in 1980.

During World War II, Mr. Baker served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the China-Burma-India Theater . He was a recipient of the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign ribbon, the American Theater Campaign ribbon, the Good Conduct medal and the World War II Victory medal.

Mr. Baker was a member of the George Taber Lodge A.F.& A.M. He served as a volunteer for the Perkins School for the Blind for many years.In his retirement, he enjoyed restoring old stone walls on his property. He also enjoyed tennis and sailing and travelled extensively.

Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, David C. Baker of Mattapoisett, and Robert C. Baker of Chapel Hill, NC; a daughter, Judith A. Yard of Mattapoisett; 2 sisters, Dorothy Genthner and Florence Philla, both of Fairhaven; and 7 grandchildren.He was the brother of the late Leslie Baker, Harald Baker and Cameron Baker.

His Funeral Service will be held on Sunday April 6, 2003 at 4 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Mattapoisett. Visiting hours will be on Sunday afternoon from 1-4 PM prior to the funeral service. Burial in Riverside Cemetery, Fairhaven, will be private.
