David Frank Nantz, 81, of Spartanburg, SC, died Thursday, July 21, 2005 at his home.

Born August 24, 1923 in Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late John B. and Pearl (Horton) Nantz.

Formerly employed with Foremost Dairies for 20 years where he was the recipient of the Pasteur Award for Heroism, he later retired as a sales representative for Britt Clary Food Company.

He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church and a former member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, song leader for the Adult 3 Department and for Magnolia Manor Nursing Home, and was the travel coordinator for Golden Fellowship Senior Citizens.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he traveled all 50 states in the United States and some foreign countries. Frank loved and enjoyed fellowship with his many friends. A great outdoorsman, he had a love for bluebirds and built many bluebird habitats.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Hayes Nantz of the home; two daughters, Elaine N. Middleton and her husband Mac, and Lynn N. Wilkins and her husband John, all of Gaffney; six grandsons, David Middleton and his wife Heather, Matthew Middleton, Russell, Reid, Brett, and Justin Wilkins; a brother, John Nantz and his wife Barbara of Cowpens; and a sister Maxine N. Seay-DeShaies and her husband Arthur of Duncan.

He was predeceased by a brother, Leon Nantz.

Visitation was 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2005 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2005 at Morningside Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. Kirk H. Neely, the Rev. Mike Hensely and the Rev. James Crocker. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Grandsons served as Pallbearers, and the Enoree River Hunt Club will serve as Honorary Escort.

In lieu of flowers, memorial could be made to Morningside Baptist Church, 897 S. Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302; or Calvary Baptist Church, 577 N. Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29303; or Hospice Special Needs Fund, 120 Heywood Avenue, Suite 300, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
