Charles B. Waller was the son of William Nelson Waller (b. 1858, d. 1906) and Cornelia Martha Della Coffelt (b. 1863, d. before 1890).
He served in the US Army during the Spanish American War in the 1st Coastal Artillery Battery, Company A as a blacksmith. He was stationed on Angel Island in San Francisco Bay, where he met John Tobin. After the war Charles Waller worked in Sac City Iowa at the Baichtal Shoeing Shop where he met the owner's daughter Lena E. Baichtal (Charles E. Baichtal's oldest daughter) on April 12, 1905 they were married. Together they had 5 children: Charles Stewart Waller (b. 1906, d. 1966), Ardis Bell (Parkinson) Waller (b. 1910, d. 2001), Maurice Boyd Waller (b. 1912, d. 2004), Charline Lenore (Wolters) Waller (b. 1919), Dean Bertram Waller (b. 1921, d. 1993).
Charles was a member and foreman of the Sac City Volunteer Fire Department. He was killed in Sac City, Iowa as the result of an accident while fighting a fire in January of 1922.
After Charles Waller's death his Army buddy John Tobin took over his job at the blacksmith shop, married his widow and raised his 5 children. Both Waller and Tobin worked for Charles E. Baichtal at the Baichtal Shoeing Shop in Sac City, Iowa as blacksmiths.
