Norma Jean Davenport, 65, of South Sioux City died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at her residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, with the Revs. Dale Jirousek, Kevin Lee and Donahue Sarff officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8:30 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.

Mrs. Davenport was born Dec. 3, 1935, in Woodbine, Iowa, the daughter of Melvin F. and Bessie C. (Heisler) Baker. She attended Leeds High School and was a graduate of Nettleton's Business College in Sioux City. She married Boyd Davenport on June 10, 1972, in Sioux City. They owned and operated A & B Body Shop and Southward Lounge in South Sioux City.

She was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church in Sioux City, and a former member of First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City. She was active in both churches and was a Sunday school teacher. She also was a member of Circle One at First Lutheran Church.

She was active in various community organizations. She was the 1977 Chamberette president, first woman elected to the South Sioux City Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, was a member of the Nebraska Community Committee in South Sioux City, first winner of the Distinguished Diana Award presented by the ABWA, and president of Automotive Service Council of Sioux City.

Survivors include her husband; three sons and their wives, Gary and Joan Monk of Newcastle, Neb., Michael and Patricia Monk of Lincoln, Neb., and James and Traci Monk of Hugo, Minn.; four stepsons, Mark and his wife, Jennifer Davenport of Richardson, Texas, Dennis Davenport and Jeff Davenport, both of South Sioux City, and Tim and his wife, Lisa Davenport of Sioux City; a daughter, Debra VanDiemen of South Sioux City; two stepdaughters, Elaine and her husband, Don Skrdlant, and Linda Davenport, all of Sioux City; a brother, Jerry Baker of Sioux City; two stepbrothers, Lanny Gifford of Texas, and Tom Gifford of Massachusetts; a stepsister, Susie LaCroix of Sioux City; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Pallbearers will be John, Adam, Austin and Alex Monk, Alan VanDiemen, Dan Mathers, Dennis and Tim Davenport.
