Selma E. Mayer, 83, of Kiel died Saturday evening July 20, 2013 at her home with her loving family at her side. She is the former Selma Awe, born August 8, 1929 in Plymouth WI, daughter of the late William & Meta (Herwig) Awe. Selma attended Plymouth Schools. On December 10, 1955 she was united in marriage to Carl E. Mayer in Plymouth. Selma & Carl enjoyed 40 years together. Carl preceded her in death on April 4, 1995. Selma worked at various businesses throughout the area while she raised her family. She was a member of St. Peter UCC, Kiel and a member of the Women's Guild. In her free time she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially babysitting. She also like to garden and sew. Survivors include her children; Lola (Steve) Schmidt, Howards Grove, Kay (Scott) Schueffner, Pleasant Prairie and their children, Danny (Amber) Christel, Jackie Christel, DuWayne (Kay) Mayer, Lomira and their children, Heather (Nick) Padilla, Craig Mayer, Betty (Wayne) Seifert, Kiel, Judy (Bill) Lutz of Kiel and their children Adam, Greg & Jordan. A daughter-in-law; Bonnie (Richard) Silbernagel, Wausaukee and their children, Jennifer (Adam) Berndt, Christopher Mayer & Ashley (Nick) Kuehnel. A son-in-law; Brian Manz, Kiel and his children, Blake Manz, Derek Manz (Fiance Laura), Selma is further survived by 4 great grandchildren; Gavin Christel, Olive Padilla, Addison & Isaac Berndt, with one great grandchild on the way. Selma is also survived by a sister; Alma Awe, a brother-in-law; Reuben Kuhn, both of Plymouth, along with her sisters-in-law; Virginia Klemme, Irene Lindemann, Janice Woelfel all of Kiel & Marcella Klemme of Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl, 2 daughters; Cindy Mayer, Linda Manz, a son; David Mayer, a sister; LaVerne Kuhn and a brother; Calvin (Virginia) Awe. Funeral services for Selma will be held at 6:00pm on Wednesday July 24, 2013 at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home (815 6th St. Kiel) with Sheila Lackershire officiating. Burial in the Kiel City Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 3:00pm until the time of services at 6:00pm. Selma's family would like to extend a very grateful thank you to all and the neighbors and friends for the prayers, concern and help you have provided.
