Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Leon and Anne Marie (Gagnon) Protin, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
He was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.
Mr. Protin was a retired member of the Construction Workers Union, Local 385.
He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the destroyer tender USS Yellowstone (AD-27), holding the rank of Metalsmith 3rd class. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Private A. Poirier Post 3260.
He was an avid tinkerer who loved to help others. He enjoyed camping, square dancing and airplanes.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Andrea Corrie and her husband Eric of Acushnet; a granddaughter, Lauryn Corrie of Acushnet; and a nephew, Richard F. Protin of Florida.
He was the brother of the late Fernand L. Protin.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 9 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
