Frank was born of an immigrant father Frank R. Grossl Sr., and native born Alma Irene Chaney. His mother died when he was young, so his father and his Aunt Helen Grossl raised him along with his two sisters. He joined the Army Air Corp at age 17, and went on to serve with the Air Force when it was created. He had served in the Philippines, Labrador Canada, Ankara Turkey and various state side bases. He married Edna Fern Myers Herre and they raised a daughter and two sons. He retired as a Master Sargent, went back to school and became an air conditioner repairman. Frank died just shy of his 45th birthday.
