James A. Cheshire Dead
James A. Cheshire died last night at 7 o'clock at his home on Cottonwood Street. He had been sick for months with complication of diseases, but his death was a direct result of kidney trouble.
James Cheshire was born at Brock's Station, near Louisville, Ky., January 15, 1838. His boyhood was spent near his birthplace, and it was there, when a young man, he learned the carpenter trade and the contracting business, which work was his delight during his years of activity. After leaving Kentucky he lived for a number of years in Indianapolis, Ind., coming to Emporia from there in 1878. In August 1881 he was married to Nancy E. Brown, of Emporia. Mr. Cheshire served with the Twentieth Regiment Indiana Calvary, during four years of the Civil War, and was a member of the G.A.R. About thirty years ago he united with the Methodist Protestant church in the Fowler neighborhood and has continued to be a member of that organization since.
Besides his wife, he leaves one daughter, Mrs. Thomas Roberts of Emporia and four step-children. They are Mrs. J.C. Hunt, of Kansas City; Mrs. Thomas Windle, of Emporia; Frank Brown, of Emporia and Harry Brown, of San Antonio, Texas. All but Harry Brown were with him at the time of his death.
The funeral will be held Sunday. Short services will be held at the home, 914 Cottonwood Street at 10 o'clock, and short services at Fowler Chapel at 11 o'clock. Rev. Rutledge of Neosho Rapids will conduct the service in the chapel and the Triple Tic Lodge, of which he was a member, will have charge at the grave. The interment will be made in the Hunt cemetery.
