She was born Dec. 13, 1920 in Mill Hall, and was the daughter of the late Charles and Orpha Harber Irvin. She married Lyman Baker on Nov. 3, 1945 who preceded her in death March 31, 1995. Shirley was a member of the Flemington First Church of Christ.
She served as a regent of DAR. She enjoyed reading, needlework, her family dogs and bird watching.
She graduated from the Lock Haven High School in 1938 and had worked for a period of time at AT&T in Harrisburg until she enlisted in the WAVES. She was honorably discharged from the Navy, Jan. 30, 1945 after two years of service. Mrs. Baker graduated with honors from the Lock Haven Teachers College in 1965.
Shirley retired from the Keystone Central School District with 18 years of teaching at Lamar Township and Mill Hall Elementary Schools.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Sheldon and Bernard Irvin. The funeral will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2005 at the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home, 121 W. Main St., Lock Haven. Officiating will be Rev. Mark Riley, Pastor of the Flemington First Church of Christ.
Interment will be in the Mount Bethel Cemetery, Lamar. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home on Tuesday evening, from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted to the Clinton County SPCA through the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home, 121 W. Main St., Lock Haven.
