1.) Mrs. Aldah B. Anderson Ex-Teacher of Deaf Dies Age 81

Mrs. Aldah B. Anderson, 81, who taught in three state schools for the deaf, including Michigan's, died Tuesday in the Kith Haven Nursing Home.


Mrs. Anderson, who formerly lived at 613 Clifford St., was born in Flint. She was graduated from the old Flint High School in 1903 and was a chairman of its reunions.


She was trained in working with the deaf at the Michigan School for the Deaf in 1903. She taught deaf children for 21 years at MSD, the Minnesota School for the Deaf in Faribault, and at the North Dakota School for the Deaf in Devils Lake. Her father, John J. Buchanan, taught at MSD for 30 years.


Since 1901 she has been at member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, and served as an interpreter for the deaf. She belonged to the Epiphany Guild of the church, the auxiliary of Flint Goodwill Industries, and the International Institute.


In 1926 she married a prominent North Dakota, attorney, William M. Anderson, who preceded her in death.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Algoe Funeral Home, with burial in Glenwood.

2.) ANDERSON, Aldah Buchanan — Formerly of 613 Clifford St, Flint, age 81, died Tuesday, August 1, 1967, at Kith Haven Nursing Home.


Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Rose Chapel, Algoe Funeral Home, Rev. Frederick R. Davidson officiating. The body will be at the Algoe Funeral Home, 703 Beach St.


Mrs. Anderson was born in Flint, Michigan, September 26, 1885, the son of John J. and Clarissa Buchanan. She married William M. Anderson, a prominent attorney in Devils Lake, North Dakota, December 14, 1926. He preceded her in death.


Mrs. Anderson was a member of St. Paul Episcopal Church since 1901, where she served as interpreter for the deaf. Mrs. Anderson was also a member of the Epiphany Guild of the church, a member of Goodwill Auxiliary, and International Institute. She was a graduate of Flint High School in 1903 and was very active in serving as chairman of Old Flint High Reunions.


She received her training at M.S.D. [Michigan School for the Deaf] in 1903, taught in schools for the deaf for 21 years including Michigan School for the Deaf, Minnesota School for the Deaf, Fairbault, Minnesota, and North Dakota School for the Deaf, Devils Lake, North Dakota.


Surviving is nephew, Rev. John J. Buchanon of St. Paul, Minnesota. A cousin, Mark H. Piper, Sr. of Flint, preceded her in death in 1963.*

3.) Aldah was a lovely lady who was a favorite at gatherings. At some point in life, she learned to read palms. She would dress as a fortune teller and had a reputation for being quite accurate in her readings.


As a teacher for the deaf, she was a friend to many. When widowed a second time she moved in with her widower cousin, Mark Piper, and became close to his extended family. She was known to them as Cousin Aldah, and everyone loved her.
