Eva Ageon
(A Tribute)
Eva Virginia Ageon, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Ageon died in Panama May 12, 1942. After graduating from Buchanan High School she entered the Nurses Training school of Jefferson Hospital, Roanoke, Va., from which she graduated in 1932. Miss Ageon was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Army Nursing Corps Reserve on January 9, 1941 at Ft Benning, Ga. On Dec. 25, 1941, she was transferred to the 210th General Hospital at Ft. Dix, N. J., and from this date she has served her country in this organization. Miss Ageon took an active part in the life of Ft. Gulick until some weeks ago when she was stricken with the illness which proved fatal on May 12, when she entered into her eternal rest. A military funeral was conducted from the Post Chapel on Ascension Day, Thursday, May 14, with Chaplain Paul S. Oliver officiating. Burial took place in beautiful, near by Mt. Hope cemetery.
To those of us who knew Eva intimately, she represented the fine and admirable qualities that we often seek, yet seldom find in individuals. With her these qualities were ever present even under the most trying circumstances. To her patients, she was their personal friend and was able to brighten many weary and dark moments by her cheerful, calm and very intelligent handling of each individual. The fact that her services were constantly in demand speaks for her personally.
In an atmosphere of chaos, destruction and bewilderment, we pause to think kindly and tenderly on those whose lives are being given as a service to mankind and their country.
May God bless them!
