FRIDAY, DEC. 15, 1876
DIED
HERMANN--In this city on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 1876, Jacob Hermann, aged 32 years, 2 months and 4 days. (His birth date is not from this but from the Jacob Herman family Bible)
Funeral was on Thursday, Dec. 14, 1976 from the German Methodist church, Columbia street. (Burlington, Iowa)

A German death notice read:
Died, Tuesday afternoon, the 12th of December 1876 of pneumonia at his home, 816 High st.
Jacob Hermann born near Marburg, Kurhessen,Germany, died at the age or 32 years, 2 months and 4 days.
The funeral will take place Thursday, Dec. 14th at 2 o'clock p.m. from the German Methodist church. Friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend.
In the family Bible Jacob stated he was born in Elnhausen, near Marburg, Germany on Oct. 8, 1844.
In the Anewalt's Burlington Directory
J.J. Hermann Manufacturer and Dealer in boots and shoes at 72 N. Main and was living at the Crutcheon House. This was before he married.
By 1875-76 directory he was still a Boot and Shoe dealer with his store at 221 Division st. and residing at 816 High street in Burlington, Iowa.
He seems to have come to America on the ship called the Stella on Aug. 14, 1860
Jacob Hermann age 16 male from Prussia to New York born 1844 and also an Adam Hermann male 40 years old so born about 1820 in Prussia (If this is Jacob, then I am not certain who this Adam born in 1820 is?)
Jacob died of T.B. on the day his last daughter was born. That daughter was Anna Marie "Mayme" Hermann who married Milton P. Freeland and died in Inglewood, Los Angeles, Ca., July 22, 1949.
Mayme's birth and her husband's death were a lot for his wife to deal with all at one time. I wonder if he lived to see his little girl born.
