Lurena Jane Mark, a native of Clackamas County, was one of the daughters of Mary Ann [Abbott] and Samuel Forrester Mark who crossed the plains from Missouri in 1847 and settled on land at, Marks Prairie, Clackamas, Oregon. Several Mark families lived on the Prairie.

Laurena was the 1st wife of Charles Nicholas Wait. They were married 15 Jan 1879 in Clackamas County, Oregon.

Lurena died, Sunday, 19 Jul 1891, near Aurora, Oregon at the home of her father. She was aged 31 years, 11 months and 01 day. Her funeral service was held 23 July in Canby. She was buried at Baker Prairie Cemetery, Canby, Clackamas County, Oregon.

A marker cannot be found for her. Her husband, Charles Nicholas Wait was later buried in Canby's Zion Cemetery along with his 2nd wife, Wilhelmina. He was the son of Judge Aaron Emmons Wait, Oregon's first Chief Justice of Oregon's Supreme Court. He later married after Lurena's early death.

Both of their families were well to do farmers. The Wait families went on to serve on the local, county and state level. Charles was a farmer, U. S. Post Master of Canby, grange member, became an attorney, served as sheriff of Oregon City, Oregon State Representative, was one of the largest tax payers in Clackamas County, was active political life of the state on every level, served as a judge, was active in the Clackamas County Fair and gave land and buildings to it.
