Joel was born in Mississipi, migrating to Shoal Creek AR by 1880 then Fisher Co, TX by 1900. He married Susan Jane McKinney around 1883 and had 9 children.

Our Brunson line traces back to Roger Brownson and Mary Underwood in 1500's Essex, England. While some of their children remained in England, the rest came to in America in the 1600's and are listed on the public registers as some of the original settlers of the Hartford/Farmington, Connecticut area.

Over time they migrated into South Carolina, where the town of Brunson, SC was founded by them and still exists today. Historical records show them as prominent planters on the Santee River for a time. Some branches remained in these areas and points along the way.

Further migration of this particular line brought us into Alabama, Mississippi, and finally west Texas by the early 1900's. Descendants have largely remained in and around Texas.
