Born in Tallahatchie Co, Mississipi. Little info is known about her early life and travels, but she and her brother William were living in Texas by the 1880's.

She married Joel T. Brunson in 1883 and nine children were born to them. Her brother ended up marrying Joel's sister Mary Ellen. The two families lived in neighboring towns in Fisher Co, TX.
