Michael Brickell April 05, 1947 - July 22, 2013 Michael Bruce Brickell was born April 05, 1947, in Carthage, Missouri, to N.L. and Dorothy Brickell. The family moved to Bakersfield in 1952, the year of the big Tehachapi earthquake. Mike graduated from BHS in 1965, where he played football. After attending college in West Virginia for one year, he returned back home to Bakersfield, where he married Laurette Marier. They had two children, Jesse and Dahlia. The young family moved to northern California, where Mike homesteaded land and built his own house. Mike was a real "mountain man", who enjoyed living off the land. He worked for the Forest Dept. for several years until his football-injured ankles forced him to quit. He married Liz Post, who had two children, Sarah and Cody. Mike and Liz continued to live in Mike's house and had two children of their own, Noah and Naja. In his later years, Mike had to move to the small town of Orleans, to be closer to children and doctors, due to failing health. He passed away on July 22, following a heart attack. Mike is survived by his six children Jesse and Maggie Brickell, Dahlia and Isidro Zurita, Cody and Melinda Post, Sarah and Thomas Horn, Noah Brickell, and Naja and Marc Tepe; ten grandchildren; his sister Sherry Rutkoskie and her husband Mark, of Bakersfield; his niece Elizabeth Piper, her husband Mark, and their two children Jared and Scott. Following his wishes, Mike will be cremated and there will be no service. www.bakersfield.com/obits
