Ann Owsley was born 3 Sep 1816 in Claiborne County, Tennessee the eldest daughter of Isaac Owsley and his wife, Sarah (Stephens) Owsley. Her paternal grandparents were John Owsley (1757-1845) and his wife, Charity (Barton) Owsley (1760-1848), of Claiborne County. Her maternal grandparents were Dudley and Nancy Stephens, of Russell County, Kentucky.

Her given name is recorded as "Ann" in the family record found in the Bible of her father and in her marriage record, but she is found in some public records as "Anna." Her maiden surname had several variant forms including Ousley, Ousely, Housley, Housely, et cetera.

Ann Housely [sic] married William Powers, 30 Aug 1840 (license), in McMinn County, Tennessee (McMinn County, Tennessee Marriages, volume C, page 30).

Her original grave marker in the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Meigs County, Tennessee is a fieldstone. Her name and date of death are carved into it. Her name is given as A. G. Powers on the original grave marker. A granddaughter, Anna Green (Powers) Campbell (1894-1987), stated she was named in honor of her grandmother and identified her middle name as Green (see Find A Grave Memorial 71500883 ).

A more recent white stone marker was placed at the gravesite in the last quarter of the twentieth century.
