Hugh A. Massa, 90, of 450 36th St., Bellaire, Oh., died Wednesday, October 11, 2000 at his home.

He was born March 28, 1910 in Bellaire, Oh., a son of the late Frank Massa and Jenny Panella Massa Ferrante.

He was the Chief Deputy Sheriff for Belmont County for over 25 years.

He was a member of the St. John Catholic Church in Bellaire, the Madonna Crusaders, Knights of Columbus Council 1246, Bellaire, Benevolent Order of Police, Sons of Italy Lodge 754, the IAC Club and the BPOE Aire 419 Elks, all of Bellaire, the Bridgeport Eagles and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 brother Eugene Massa and 1 sister Lena Massa Hasper and his step-father Antonio Ferrante.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Ellen Witt Massa ; 1 son, Bruce Massa and his wife, Terrie of Columbus, Oh.; 1 daughter, Karen Massa Beardman of Columbus, Oh.; 1 brother, Roger Massa and his wife, Edith of Wilmington, Del. Also 3 grandchildren, Chris Beardman, Rita Beardman and Nicholas Massa , all of Columbus, Oh.; 3 great-grandchildren, Christopher Beardman, Andrew Beardman and Keirstin Valenzuela, all of Columbus, Oh. Also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends will be received at the BAUKNECHT-ALTMEYER FUNERAL HOME, 441 37th St., Bellaire on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.

Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the St. John Catholic Church, 415 37th St., Bellaire with Msgr. Gene W. Mullett, the Celebrant.

Entombment in the Holly Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Pleasant Grove, Oh.

Vigil service will be held on Friday at 2:15 p.m. in the funeral home.

Sons of Italy service will be held on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John Catholic Church, 415 37th St., Bellaire, Oh. 43906.
