We do know that he married twice. Not much is known about the first marriage though elders in the family reported her last name was Cawley, though no record has been found to support this family lore. From this marriage his first son Arthur R. L. Watson was born.
His second and final marriage was to Martha Ann Johnson on October 8, 1856 in Wilcox County, Alabama.
Lewis and Martha lived in Wilcox County, Alabama in 1860 with his son Arthur and two more children. Lewis served in the U. S. Civil War for the Confederate States of America in Company A in the 45th Alabama Infantry.
By 1870 the family was living in Monroe County, Alabama with seven children where they remained during the 1880 census. By that time Arthur had married and was living with his own family. Lewis and Martha had their last child in 1881 giving them a family of nine children. Within ten years of his last child being born he passed away.
Lewis' occupations throughout the years show he was a mechanic, a blacksmith, and a wheelwright.
