Pearl Shropshire

Bessie Shropshire

Sam Shropshire

After her fathers death, her mother Marjorie, married Timothy Monday and had three children by him.

Charles E. Monday

Alfred Lee Monday

Addie went by the name Monday all her life.1900 census shows her birth as July 1896. Marjorie married Tim Aug 2,1896. That makes Addie one month old when they married. I have not found the date that Cal Shropshire died. Until I can determine his death, I will assume that she is a Shropshire. DNA results also shows I have a closer connection to Shropshire cousins than Monday ones!

Tim Monday remarried after her mothers death and had a child by second wife.

Nellie Monday

Addie married Isaac Henry Bethurum and they had three sons.

Addie is my paternal grandmother, I have no memory of her because I was two when my mother and dad divorced, and because my dad was not a part of my life until I was a teenager, and only a short time before he died.

The story I was told was that my grandmother suffered from epilepsy and back then I suppose it was classified as mental illness. My grandfather had her institutionalized( Abt 1926). My grandfather sent the two older boys (One was my father) to live with my grandmothers family. My grandfather had met a waitress, who knew a family that would take the youngest boy. It was to be until he could take care of them. When he went back, he was told that the child had died.

My father married my mother and they had three children, my self being the youngest. My mother said that they visited her most every weekend and had picnic's. My mother said there was nothing wrong with her, that she seemed fine and loved her grandchildren. Just before I was born around 1951, My dad set out to try and find his baby brother because they never believed he had died. At the same time he was looking for his family because he found out that he had been adopted. I am not sure who found who first. He was taken to see his mother (my grandmother) and she started crying and said she never believed he had died. It was a great reunion. She never had another attack. After my mom and dad divorced, my dad never came around very much. My mother told me that she was such a sweet person and that she would probably know me as soon as she seen me because she always thought I was a beautiful baby and said I looked like my dad.

In January of 1980 I started trying to find her. I located my aunt ( her sister) in June and she told me that she was in a nursing home in Mason Texas, and the name of it. I gave my aunt my phone number and told her to call me for anything. She was up in age also. I called the nursing home and talked with whom I thought was the head of Nursing and explained to her that I had just located her and gave her all of my info to put in her records to be contacted and that I was planning to see my grandmother within a month.

I ask if she was able to talk on the phone and they said yes and brought her to the phone.

That was very emotional for me. I told her who I was and that I was coming to see her. She sounded happy and fine until I closed the conversation with I love you and will see you soon, and she said back to me, I love you too and come back to see me. I just cried and cried after I hung up.

Four weeks later around the end of August on a Friday, I called the Nursing Home to get directions on how to get there and the address when I was informed that she had died two weeks Pryor.I ask why I was not called and they said they did not have my information. I must say, I was devastated. I then called my aunt and she had misplaced my number. Bless her heart, I could not be upset with her. That is when I began my journey to trace my family tree.

No I never got to see her, but I love her so, She holds a special place in my heart. I know someday we will meet and be together. I love you grandmother!
