Nelson was a Member of the Class of 54 Flat Rock High School


Nelson E. Brown, age 78, of Huntington Woods, Michigan passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2013 in the comfort of his home.

Friends may visit in the Arthur Bobcean Funeral Home, Flat Rock Chapel on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 11:00 am. Rev. Dana Strall of the First United Methodist Church of Flat Rock will officiate the service. Cremation will follow.

Born on June 4, 1935 in Ash Township, Michigan, he was the son of Ervin and Vivian (Nelson) Brown. On August 19, 1995 he married Sue Fritsch at the First United Methodist Church in Flat Rock.

He was the owner of Brown Marine Excavating until 1989 and continued to work as a Crane and Heavy Equipment Operator until retiring in 1997.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Flat Rock, Floral City Harmonizers, his beloved Barber Shop Quartet, Flat Rock Historical Society, he helped design the plans for the Flat Rock historical park, a member of the ROMEO's (Retired Old Men Eating Out) and a past member of Flat Rock Kiwanis Club.

Nelson is known for his DT&I Model Railroad that covers his entire basement.

Nelson was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dolores Ancona.

Surviving is his wife, Sue Brown of Huntington Woods; 2 sons, Randy Brown of Woodhaven and James (Krystal) Brown of Carleton; 2 granddaughters, Heather and Arika; He is also survived by his step-children, Jim (Kris) Denning, Andy (Stacy) Denning, Linda (Gary) Voight and Diane (Brian) Murphy and 11 step-grandchildren, including, Brian, Rachel and Brett who he loved living next door to; niece, Kathy Thompson-Ancona and nephew, Brian Ancona; and his beloved dog Brownie Brown.
