Alvin W. Winter, 78, of Birdsey Rd., Farmington, husband of Julia (nee Gutauskas) Winter, died Wednesday, (Sept. 4, 1996), at the Middlesex Memorial Hospital.

Born in Kensington, August 3, 1918, son of the late Robert A. and Jessie M. (nee Jones) Winter, he resided in Farmington for over 50 years. Prior to retiring, he was a tool grinder at the New Britain Machine Company. He was an avid ham radio operator and a member of the AARL for many years. He was a US Army Veteran of World War II, having served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre.

Besides his wife he is survived by daughter, Diana J. Winter of Farmington; son, William C. Winter of Farmington; sisters, Mabel W. Toomey of Bolton, Judy W. Roy of Newington; brother, Robert T. Winter of Farmington; grandchildren, Jessica A, Kelly E and William C. Winter, Jr.

He was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy W. Ladd.

Funeral services will be Saturday, 10 a.m. in the Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., R te 4, Unionville.

Burial with full military honors will be in Riverside Cemetery, Farmington.

There are no calling hours.
