He was a veteran of the United States Army and Proudly served his Country in the 3rd Battalion, 141st Infantry. He proudly served as a member of the VFW Post 8788 Honor Guard. He cared for the veterans, for the active duty and reserve personnel, and their families. A proven leader dedicated to the VFW. We can proudly say that Eduardo made a lasting impression on everyone he met with his charm, which was only surpassed by the size of his heart. His energy, mischief, kindness and zest for life are what his friends & family will remember most. Eduardo is "ARMY STRONG."
He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Avila-Tutka (Phillip); two sons, Michael Edward Avila and David Edward Avila; four sisters, Rosalie Guzman (Eloy), Irma (Efrain) Davila, Dora (Eddie) Lopez and Maricela (Jorge) Del Bosque; four brothers, John (Sylvia) Avila, Andrew (Yan) Avila, Robert Avila and Rick (Diana) Avila; and three grandchildren, Gavin Edward Avila, Lola Raquel Tutka, and Conner James Tutka; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm Monday, July 29, 2013 with a rosary being recited at 7:00 pm at Rivera Funeral Home in McAllen. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in McAllen. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.
