Barbara was born March 18, 1939 in Martinsville to the late Ernie and Frieda (Hamm) Whitesell. She spent her entire life in Morgan County and was a Martinsville High School graduate with the Class of 1957. Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed gospel, country and bluegrass music, reading, cooking, playing games, fishing, working puzzles and gardening; most especially she enjoyed time shared with her family.
She worked for RCA in Bloomington and was a cook for Paragon Elementary School, Morgan County Jail, Bradford Woods and the former Lambert's Restaurant and Poe's Cafeteria. She was a member of the Paragon Baptist Church and the former Rebecca Lodge in Paragon.
She will be sadly missed and always remembered by her loving family and friends including her husband of over 48 years, Robert Gene Davis of Paragon, whom she married April 17, 1965. She also leaves behind three sons, Daniel Davis (wife, Teresa) and Eric Davis, Paragon; Kirby Davis, Gosport; four daughters, Nicole Davis Gose (husband, Robert), Martinsville; Rita Austin Wiser and Teresa and Kitna Austin, Paragon; two brothers, Melvin Whitesell (wife, Diane) and Ernie Whitesell, Martinsville; six sisters, Jean Clephane (husband, Gary), Paragon; Rhonda Kindred, Della Creed (husband, Bob), Brenda Shaver (husband, Ted), Beverly Peters and Celia Scott, Martinsville; thirteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren and looking forward to the arrival of two more.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ernestine Richardson and Myrna Poore and two brothers, Barney and George Whitesell.
Family and friends are invited to a graveside service celebrating her life on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Friendship Park Cemetery in Paragon. There will be no calling hours. Neal & Summers Funeral & Cremation Center has been entrusted with arrangements.
