He was a graduate of Catholic High School in Donaldsonville and Louisiana State University of Baton Rouge. He was a Major in the United State Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a business man who operated an accounting and tax service.
He was President of Business Service, Inc., a domestic and international business advisory corporation and was involved in sugar cane farming, a family enterprise. He served on the Board of Directors of four corporate entities. He was past president of Donaldsonville Rotary Club, Donaldsonville Toast-masters' Club, Ascension Parish Library Board and the State of Louisiana Library Trustees' Association, State of Louisiana Advisory Board for Public Libraries, Director of Ascension-Donaldsonville Chamber of Commerce, Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church Advisory Board, Ascension Parish Planning Commission, and the Academy of the Sacred Heart of Grand Coteau Advisory Board.
He is survived by his children; James Jr. and Elaine Abadie of Donaldsonville, Cynthia and Peter Evans of Katy, TX, Noelie and Michael Loland of Donaldsonville, Babette Abadie of Colorado Springs, CO, Gregory and Vicki Abadie of Barbados, W.I. and Anita and Bobby Magee of Gonzales, L.A, 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, and a sister; Marie Falcon of Donald-sonville, LA.
Preceded in death by his wife, Isabelle Simoneaux; parents; Frank and Elma Schexnayder Abadie; and a brother, Ray Abadie.
The Abadie family would like to thank the staff, doctors, and nurses at the Carpenter House, Our Lady of the Lake Hospital and the Nursing Care Connection Service all in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Visitation at Ourso Funeral Home in Donaldsonville on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m and on Thursday, August 27, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church with Reverend Phil Spano officiating.
Burial will follow at the Ascension of Our Lord Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons; Troy and Steven Abadie; Stephen Evans; Mike and DJ Loland, Brendan MacHamer, Jon Ebert and Brad Gomez.
