Keith Udell Klingler 1928-2002

Keith Udell Klingler, age 73 of 905 Fairway Lane SE, Iowa City passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at his home after a short illness.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Saturday, April 13, 2002 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, a vigil service service will be at 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home. Graveside services with military honors will be at 3:00 p.m., Monday, April 15, 2002 at the Graceland Cemetery in Sioux City. A memorial fund has been established in his name.

Keith was born November 9, 1928, in Irene SD, the son of Guy William and Hulda Josephine (Jensen) Klingler. He moved with his parents to Sioux City, Iowa about 1942. Keith graduated from Sioux City East High School and joined the United States Navy to serve on the USS Ingraham & USS McCain Ships.

In 1955 he started a career with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Sioux City, Iowa. In 1965, he transferred with Northwestern Bell to Iowa City. He retired after 31 years as a Supervisor of the Construction/Splicing Crew with NWB. He has been a resident of Iowa City for the past 37 years. In recent years he has worked for Williams Telecommunications Group and Mod Pod Reality.

In the early days of his telephone career, Keith was active in Communications Workers of America, Local 7103 as Vice-President and President. He also served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Woodbury County Labor Council in the early sixties. While living in Sioux City, he served on the Woodbury County Judicial nominating committee and the Sioux City Mayor's committee for international visitors.

Other affiliations include past president of Telephone Company Pioneers Club, Optimist International Club President and Masonic Blue Lodge and Scottish Rite Bodies.

On July 15, 1961 he was married to Stella Booth in Rapid City, SD.

His family includes, his wife, Stella, daughters, Taren Klingler of Anchorage, Alaska, and Cindy Maher of Oxford, Iowa; grandchildren, Jessica Gatewood of Anchorage, Sean Maher and his fiancé, Jackie Morrow of North Liberty, and Keista Maher and her fiancé, John Mason of Huntington Beach, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Eulalie.
