Ben Carter Short, aged 42, died Thursday, March 23, at 2:30 a.m., at the Veterans Hospital in Alexandria after an illness of about three years. Interment was made in the new Winnsboro cemetery Friday afternoon, at 3 o'clock, Diamond-Hawthorne Post, American Legion having charge of the obsequies. The religious services were conducted by Rev. Dana Terry and Rev. O.L. Tucker, of the Baptist and Methodist churches respectively in this city. He was a member of the Veterans Hospital Post of American Legion at Alexandria.

Mr. Short was a native of Winnsboro and was one of the first to volunteer when the United States entered the World War.

He is survived by one son, Ben R. Short of Shreveport, and his mother Mrs. Cora C. Short of Winnsboro. He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Carrie Wheeler of Natchez, Miss., Miss Alie Short of Shreveport, and Mrs. Florence Bartmess of Baton Rouge, and two brothers, E.J. Short and Frank P. Short of Winnsboro.
