Dorothy I. Mathies, age 93, a Manitowoc resident, died early Thursday morning, August 1, 2013 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.She was born on October 27, 1919 in Kimberly, daughter of the late Frank and Minnie (Cook) Arts. Dorothy was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School, Class of 1937 and also graduated from Manitowoc Business College. On June 28, 1941 she married John Mathies at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on October 16, 1981. Dorothy was a member of the Manitowoc Senior Center. She enjoyed her family, traveling, reading, baking, volunteering at the Senior Center and for church services at the nursing homes.Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law: John & Dianne Mathies, Denmark, Robert & Lee Ann Mathies, Denmark; eight grandchildren: Mark & Janice Mathies, Denmark, Michael & Rose Mathies, Menchalville, Daniel Mathies, Denmark, David Mathies & his fiancé Brittany, Reedsville, Michele & Scott Kipp, Duvall, Mike & Holly Mathies, Green Bay, Melissa & Dan Malfroid, Denmark, Matthew Mathies, Denmark; eight great grandchildren: Gracie, McKenzie, McKayla, McCoy, Ethan, Collin, Madison, Mason; and nieces and nephews: Doreen Salkowski, Dianne Strelow, Dorale Blackbourn and Dave Salkowski. She was also preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law: Esther & Casimer Salkowski; a nephew: Dick Salkowski and a niece: Donna Salkowski. burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
