KOKOMO, June 15, Miss Myrtle Coy was instantly killed by a stroke of lightning, at the home of her brother-in-law, Frank Widener, two miles north of Kokomo, Friday night. At the time little rain was falling, but lightning was flashing and thunder was roaring. The members of the family were sitting in the parlor. Miss Coy was on the floor, near the front door. Suddenly the room was filled with a bright light, the door and the casing above it were smashed into kindling wood and the girl's body pitched forward. Both Mr. and Mrs .Widener, who were sitting on the opposite side of the room, felt the shock. Within five feet of the girl a three-month-old baby was playing on the floor. After the flash of lightning it was cooing and laughing and was uninjured. The lightning struck Miss Coy in the back of the head, leaving two marks. Her hair was nearly all burned off, the flame being extinguished by Mrs. Widener. The electricity ran along her spine. Her clothing at the back was torn open as neatly as if a pair of scissors had been used. -Logansport Journal, June 15, 1902
