A lifelong resident of Omaha, Betty graduated from Central High School in 1945 and attended Omaha University. Employed at Mutual of Omaha in late 1940s and early 1950s, she married Eugene "Pete" Drake and dedicated herself full-time to raising her family. Passionately devoted for more than 35 years to the ice sport of curling, she was past President of the Ak-Sar-Ben Women's Curling Club. An avid gardener, she won an award for a 1984 garden walk, was an excellent cook who experimented with gourmet recipes, and adored wildlife and her pets. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lela and Elmer Backstrom, and sister, Donna Steiner. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Pete Drake; son, Thomas Scott Drake of Albuquerque, New Mexico; daughter, Carolyn Kay Drake of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and many beloved family members and friends. The family will receive friends Monday, 5pm to 7pm at the West Center Chapel. SERVICES Tuesday, 11am, West Center Chapel. Interment, Evergreen Memorial Park.
