Lucille Parker Wright Markey was the daughter of John Winslow and Sarah Belle (Owens) Parker. She was born in or around Maysville, KY in 1896. In 1919 she married Warren Wright, who owned the world renowned Calumet Farm in Lexington, KY. Mr. & Mrs. Wright worked to establish Calumet Farm as a giant of the Thoroughbred horse industry.
Warren and Lucille Wright were the parents of Warren Wright, Jr.
After Mr. Wright's death in 1950, Lucille assumed control of the farm and enjoyed the farm's continued success. In 1952, she married Rear Admiral Gene Markey, a famous Hollywood writer and producer.

During Mrs. Markey's association with Calumet Farm, the farm amassed racing and breeding statistics that are unlikely to be challenged in the Thoroughbred industry. At the the time of her death in 1982, Calumet's horses had earnings of $26,410,941.06, 2,401 victories, 1689 seconds and 1,509 thirds, along with several winners of the Kentucky Derby, including "Whirlaway" in 1941.
