He retired from A.E. Staley Mfg. Co. in 1976, after 34 years of employment. He played with the A.E. Staley baseball team in the 1940s and was an avid bowler on several of the senior citizens bowling leagues. He had received a number of bowling trophies from various bowling leagues and had always greatly enjoyed sports throughout his life. He was a member of Trueblood Memorial United Methodist Church, A.E. Staley Retirees Club and a volunteer for many senior citizens programs. He married Virginia White on June 19, 1937.
Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Sharon L. (Kevin) Kramer , his sons, Bill (Cherie), Ronald (Sandra) and Steve(Karen) Adams, his brother, Wayne Herbert (Tillie) Adams, his grandchildren, Greg, Jeff (Shirley), Bradley (Ann), Cummings, Brian (Dana), Stephanie, Wesley, Meredith, John, Matthew and Sara, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, one sister and one great-grandson.
He was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by all.
