John Anderson Arrant was the son of James Peter Arrant & Sarah Ann Broughton. He married Nancy ("Nannie") Elizabeth Bush, December 14, 1876 in Russell Co., Ala.

John was a farmer, and a Russell Co. Deputy Sheriff. He served as the Town Marshal of Seale, Ala., off-and-on, for a number of years, before taking charge of the jail there.
