Dr. Wayne P. Bailey, Professor of Computer Science at Truman State University, died of lymphoma at the age of 64, June 9, 2013, at his home in Kirksville where he lived with his wife, Donna.

The son of O. Paul and Rose Marie (Ratliff) Bailey, he was born May 20, 1949, in Kirksville and lived with his family on their farm at South Gifford, MO, until 1967. He attended grade school in South Gifford and graduated from LaPlata High School in 1967. After serving in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1972, earning the rank of Sergeant E-5 in the infantry and finishing the NCO Academy at Ft. Richardson, AK, he received with honors a BS and BSE in mathematics at Truman State University in Kirksville. His PhD was completed in computer science at the University of Missouri, Rolla, in 1982. He has been a respected professor of computer science at Truman State University since 1980, designing and implementing the first computer science degree program there. He was married in 1984 to Donna J. Tague Robbins.

Wayne grew up in the South Gifford Christian Church where he was baptized as a child. Later he became a member of the First United Methodist Church in Kirksville. He was also a member of the Adair Lodge #366 of Kirksville, York Rite Bodies, Moila Temple of the Shrine, Moila Temple Legion of Honor, and the El Kadir Shrine Club in Kirksville, serving as club president in 1995.

Besides his wife and son, Brennan Robbins, of Kirksville, he is survived by his two sisters, Mrs. Steve (Janice) Moser of Urbandale, IA, and Mrs. Mike (Joyce) Peavler of Novelty, MO, one niece, three nephews, five great nieces, a great nephew, two great great nephews and many in-laws, other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his father in 2002 and his mother in 2009.

Military rites with interment of ashes will be take place at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO.
