Ann Bradford Cook, of Grosse Pointe Farms, died peacefully Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, from heart disease, shortly after entering hospice care. She was 89.

She was predeceased by her parents, Chauncey Ferris Cook and Jane Whitney Cook of Hillsdale, and sister, Martha Cook Nash.

She is survived by her nephews, Richard Whitney Nash of Allegan, Peter Bradford Nash of Muskegon and Stephen Ellis Nash of Honolulu, Hawaii; niece, Martha Nash Campos of San Francisco; grandniece, Martzi Campos; grandnephew, Will Campos of Los Angeles, and her cousins, Bill Heath, Samantha Heath Diaz and Gregory Heath.

Ms. Cook was born May 17, 1924, in Ann Arbor. She grew up in Hillsdale, living in the Cook family house at 139 Hillsdale Street.

She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan in 1945 and a second degree in home economics from Wayne State University in 1951. For most of her career, Ms. Cook served as a dietician at Harper Hospital in Detroit.

She was an active member of the Detroit Garden Club and served several terms on the board of governors of the Martha Cook Building, a women’s dormitory at the University of Michigan.

She loved to travel. During her life, she visited many destinations across the globe, and took her niece and nephews with her on numerous excursions.

Ms. Cook was a superb needleworker and also loved to garden. She kept many indoor plants, and maintained a beautiful yard, including a spectacular tree peony that blooms in early May.

Her family said Ms. Cook was smart, practical, quick-witted, funny and generous. She is missed by her family, friends and dedicated caregivers.

There was a gathering in her honor and memory at her home in Grosse Pointe in January. A private interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsdale this summer.
