Liona Ann Watkins Johnson, 57, daughter of Albertus Nelson "Bert" and Sarah Ellen "Ella" Watkins, passed away Dec 28, 1975 at the Sheridan County Hospital in Hoxie Kansas. Mrs Johnson was born July 5, 1918 on a farm near Holden, Missouri. Because of the untimely death of her parents during her infancy, who died a week apart in the Swine flu epidemic 1918-1919 she was raised by her mother's brother, Mr. William P Batman, and his wife Margaret Baxter. The Batman's moved to a Sheridan County farm northwest of Hoxie in 1920, and it was there that Mrs. Johnson grew to womanhood.

She was united in marriage to Melvin E. Johnson, Sept 8, 1939. With her beloved husband she lived essentially all her married life on a farm northwest of Hoxie. In February of 1975, she moved, with her husband, to 1600 Maple, Hoxie, Kansas.
Liona was an excellent cook and seamstress. She excelled in 4-H for several years as a young woman, and brought these skills to life on the farm and her passion of caring for her family. Liona and Melvin had five children: Darryll Ray, Barbara Ann, Richard Orville, Roger Dean, and Robert Lee.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Hoxie Presbyterian Church and maintained a steadfast faith in Christianity all of her life.
Funeral services were held Dec 31, 1975 at the Hoxie Presbyterian Church...Graveside services were held at the Hoxie Cemetery.
