Mr. Charles L. Pendergrass, age 75, of Rome, passed away Monday, August 5, 2013, in a local hospital.

Mr. Pendergrass was born in Floyd County, Georgia on August 22, 1937, son of the late Thomas Jefferson Pendergrass and the late Bama Mae Melton Pendergrass Millican. He was also preceded in death by his step-father, Charles Raymond Millican, Sr., and by 2 step-brothers, Hotchie Millican and Edward Millican. Mr. Pendergrass was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force from 1956 until 1960. He worked as a Pipefitter with the Local #766 Plumbers & Steamfitters for over 22 years and then retired from Woodmen of the World where he was a Field Representative. Mr. Pendergrass was a member of the West Rome Baptist Church where he was a member of the Tom Sanders Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the Coosa Lodge #622 F&AM and the Low 12 Club.

Survivors include his wife, the former Peggy Joyce Tillery, to whom he was married on October 9, 1956; 2 daughters, Mrs. Deborah Emery, and her husband, Harlan, Rome, and Mrs. Crystal Davis, and her husband, Roger, Cave Spring; a sister, Mrs. JoAnn Mullins, and her husband, Don, Silver Creek; a step-brother, Charles R. Millican, Jr., and his wife, Carolyn, Statesboro; 5 grandchildren, Mrs. Rachel Spradlin, and her husband, Clay, Dallas, Miss Amy Davis, Cave Spring, Seth Davis, Cave Spring, Mrs. Jamie Thrasher, and her husband, Brian, Silver Creek, and Miss Danielle Emery, Rome; 4 great grandchildren, Jarrod Spradlin, Davis Spradlin, Alex Hitchcock, and Hunter Thrasher; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2013, at 2pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Jarrod Roberts and the Rev. Ken Oates officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard presenting military honors.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Wednesday from 5 until 8pm. At other hours, they may be contacted at each of their respective residences.

Pallbearers are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Thursday at 1:30pm and include: Roger Davis, Harlan Emery, Brian Thrasher, Steve Millican, Clay Spradlin, and Don Mullins.
