Manford D. Green, 66, Dies; Banker and Ex-Educator

He was District Superintendent of Schools for 34 Years

Manford Dewey Green, 66, president of Liverpool Bank and former district superintendent of schools for 34 years, died early Friday at the University Hospital of the Good Shepherd, to which he was taken from his home in Liverpool about a week ago. He had been ill since June.

Mr. Green, widely known in Masonic circles, had been secretary of Liverpool Lodge for 34 years. He had been principal of several Central New York schools and was in charge of Liverpool High School when elected school commissioner in Onondaga County. When district superintendencies were set up he was named superintendent of the fourth district of Onondaga County and continued in that capacity until two years ago when he retired, being succeeded by Devillor Sloan of Elbridge.

He was one of the organizers of Liverpool Bank and served as its president from the time it started operations 11 years ago. He also was one of the Republican leaders in the town of Salina.

Mr. Green was born at Adams Center, June 23, 1872, the son of DeChoice and Marissa Dewey Green. He was graduated from Adams Collegiate Institute and Albany State Teachers’ College. On his 25th birthday he was married to Miss Myra Reed of Adams Center. She died in 1920.

A 32d degree Mason, he was a past master as well as secretary of Liverpool Lodge, F. & A.M.; a member of Scottish and York Rites and Tigris Shrine. He was a charter member of Lodge 218, Order of Eastern Star, and assistant grand lecturer of that order. He was a member of the Liverpool Foresters of America.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. August Lehne of Liverpool and three grandsons, Robert Green, Robert Baker and Charles Baker.

Funeral services will be held at the home, 807 Oswego Street, Liverpool, Monday at 2 P.M. The Rev. Roy Taylor, pastor of the Liverpool Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery.
