Linn F. Averill Sr., age 85, of Granite Falls, MN, formerly of Echo, MN passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at the Clarkfield Care Center in Clarkfield, MN. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at the Sunset Funeral Home in Echo with visitation being held one hour prior to the service on Sunday. Burial will be in the Echo Cemetery with full military honors. Online condolences may be placed at www.sunsetfuneralassociation.com. Linn F. Averill was born on October 22, 1927 to Linn and Jessie (VanOfferen) Averill in Montevideo, Minnesota. He enjoyed the Montevideo area as a child and loved to camp and deliver newspapers. He attended school in Montevideo and in 1945 he enlisted into the United States Navy. While in the service, Linn was aboard his ship in the Pacific, Australia, and the Phillipines on their Independence Day, served in the Korean War, was in China and occupied Japan. He was honorably discharged from service in 1952.

On November 7, 1948, Linn was united in marriage to the love of his life of 60 years, Marilyn Roe in Minneapolis, MN. After Linn's honorable discharge from the Navy, they made their home in Minneapolis until 1953 when they moved to Hermosa Beach, California where Linn worked for Thiem Industries. In 1975, they moved back to Minnesota to be near family and made their home in the Echo area where Linn began to work for the Farmers Coop Oil of Echo. In 2010, Linn moved to the Henry Hill Apartments in Granite Falls until just recently when his health forced him to become a resident of the Clarkfield Care Center.

Over the years, Linn was active in coaching and umpiring both softball and baseball. Linn loved traveling and collecting memorabilia from each state they visited, he and Marilyn made it to every state except Alaska. He had a good sense of humor, liked golfing, fishing and hunting, bowling, and spending time with his family.

On Wednesday, June 26, 2013 Linn passed away at the Clarkfield Care Center in Clarkfield, MN at the age of 85 years old.

Grateful for having shared his life is his one son, Linn (Barbara) Averill Jr. of Green Valley, AZ; two grandchildren, Erin Averill of River Falls, WI and Ann Averill of Inver Grove Heights, MN; and one great-grandson, Tyler Veness also of River Falls, WI.

His wife, Marilyn of 60 years, his parents, six brothers, and three sisters preceded him in death.
