Dollie Ann Holestine, 72, a resident of rural Independence, Kan., for seven years and the wife of J. C. Holestine, prominent farmer of Sycamore Valley, north of Independence, died at the home at 8:50 o'clock, Monday morning, July 4, after a year's illness.
Dollie Ann Brannon [sic] was born April 5, 1866, in Webster county, Mo. At the age of 22 she was united in marriage to Joseph C. Holestine, and to this union were born twelve children, five dying in infancy.
When she was 25 years of age she was united with the Methodist church at Pleasant Hill near Marshfield, Mo. Later she transferred her membership to the Missionary Baptist church at Friendship south of Marshfield. Mrs. Holestine has followed the Christian beliefs throughout her live. She was a good wife and mother and enjoyed spending her time with her family. Although only a resident of the county for a few years she had made many friends, who were grieved at hearing of her death.
In the year 1932 she with her husband moved to Kansas and had resided in Montgomery County during that time. The body was taken to Marshfield, Mo., where funeral services were held 2 p.m. Wednesday, and burial was in the Mount Olive cemetery. Rev. Leonard of Springfield was in charge. Funeral arrangements were in charge of Potts Funeral Home of Independence.
Surviving are the husband, J. C. Holestine, of the home; six daughters, Mrs. Cecil Grier or Rogersville, [Mo.] Mrs. Hugh King, Mrs. L. L. Batemon and Mrs. Lawrence Clouse of Marshfield, Mo., Mrs. F. A. Dupre of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. M. C. Alford of Altoona, Kan.; one son, Everett Holestine, of Independence Kans.; two brothers, Sam Brannon of Colorado and Tom Brannon of Winfield, Kan.; three sisters, Mrs. Ollie Coxton of Kansas City, Mrs. Sarah Conner of Chandler, Okla., and Mrs. Ellen Slack of Pueblo, Colo. She is also survived by 33 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
